Gilbert El Hajje is a PhD candidate at the Research and Development department of France’s leading electricity production company, Electricité de France.
His field of research focuses on the development of green renewable energies, and in particular, photovoltaic solar cells. The main objective of his ongoing thesis work is the elaboration and development of luminescence-based characterization methods for polycrystalline and third-generation solar cells.
His was awarded with the SPIE2014 “Green Photonics Award for Renewable Energies Generation” as he co-authored the selected, best scientific paper: “Micrometric characterization methods of thin-film solar cells using luminescence emissions”
He was also recently award with the best presentation award at the 2014 E-MRS conference that took place in Lilles, France for his work entitled: “Spatial characterization of CIGS solar cells inhomogeneites”
In 2011, Gilbert graduated with honors and obtained his bachelor degree in physics. For his final year project, Gilbert developed a Monte Carlo based code that allowed the simulation of a photon flux propagating through multiple, light diffusing mediums. His work had many important applications, particularly in the field of medical imaging.
Later on, Gilbert got accepted in the prestigious French engineering school “Ecole Polytechnique” in Paris, where he specialized in the field of renewable energies. His curriculum there was mainly about solar cells technology. His graduation project at Ecole Polytechnique was evidently about solar cell photovoltaics and more specifically the study of time-resolved photoluminescence emission in CIGS solar cells.
Directly after his graduation, Gilbert decided to join “Electricité de France” as a PhD candidate.
