In wavelength-routed WDM networks, all-optical connection (or lightpath) is required to be established between communication entities before data transmission. In order to establish and take down such a connection, we need control mechanisms to select a route, assign a wavelength, and reserve resource to it. These mechanisms are expected to be scalable and be able to support highly dynamic and bursty traffic, meanwhile with a low degree of blocking for connection requests. In this paper, we propose to introduce a distributed control protocol for lightpath establishment in wavelength-routed WDM networks, which utilize a hybrid resource reservation scheme from Source Initiation Reservation (SIR) and Destination Initiation Reservation (DIR), and an efficient data transmission scheme, namely Conditional One-way. A simulation is developed to evaluate performances in terms of blocking probability and lightpath setup time, and results show that our protocol outperforms other approaches.
