Abstract
Waveguide lenses constitute a critical element for a number of integrated optical (10) signal-processing devices. Presently, a variety of structures is available to accomplish the basic collimating and focusing operations: geodesic and Luneburg lenses, corrected homogeneous acircular refracting lens systems (CHARLES)', Fresnel lenses. Among these, only CHARLES and Fresnel systems combine good performance and a well assessed and relatively simple planar fabrication technology.
