Abstract
COVID-19, which is caused by coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has appeared to be a quickly spreading disease. It is affecting people from more than 100 countries across the world. The disease primarily spreads through respiratory droplets, and human-to-human transmission was confirmed shortly after the virus emerged. The severity of symptoms caused by viral infection varies from person to person. Some people only experience cold-like symptoms but hard to recover. Others will show severe respiratory symptoms and infectious symptoms, and even die. Among all the COVID-19 patients, many of them also have other comorbidities like diabetes mellitus. 42.3% of 26 fatalities due to COVID-19 in Wuhan, China are also patients with diabetes, and the presence of diabetes mellitus may interfere with corticosteroid therapy, which is commonly used for COVID-19 patients to treat inflammation. This paper will discuss the potential effects diabetes may have on corticosteroid therapy for COVID-19.
