Abstract
Understanding the influence of artificial island on the water environment would be valuable for scientific management strategies for the coastal zones. In this study, so as to resolve this issue, a hydrodynamic model was built to investigate the changes of tidal dynamic factors caused by Ocean Flower Island in Yangpu Bay. The results demonstrate that the construction of the Ocean Flower Island leads to the reduction in tidal-energy in the semi-enclosed water formed between the islands, especially between the petals. The decrease of tidal-energy results in the weakening tidal movement and the trend of increasing deposition of sediment. The O1 tide occupies a dominant position in all tide, and the maximum amplitude appears in Xinying Bay, which is approximately 0.82 m. Amplified the tidal amplitude slightly in Yangpu Bay between OFI and Yangpu Port. The phases were all delayed (less than 0.28°) in the inner sea. The tidal characteristics of Yangpu Bay were mostly leading by the ebb tide; while in the Xinying Bay were flood dominant. The build of Ocean Flower Island enhanced the ebb dominance in the area of 3# island and Yangpu port. Whilst mitigated ebb dominance in the Inner Sea on the east side of the 3# island. The consequences would be valuable for planning management and sustainable development of Yangpu Bay regions.
