This article discusses the possibilities of virtual and augmented reality technologies in the training process. The meaning of the definitions «virtual reality» and «augmented reality» is revealed. The principle of VR and AR technologies were described. The experience of introducing these technologies in higher educational institutions in the Russian Federation is analyzed. The possibilities of using virtual simulators and virtual laboratories in training future specialists were considered. The main advantages and disadvantages of using virtual and augmented reality technologies in the training process were identified. Examples of VR and AR-technologies usage at the industrial enterprises for personnel training and skills upgrading are given.
