Recently (2019), Dr. Tarun Kumar Gangopadhyay is retired from CSIR job where he was working as Chief Scientist (Scientist-G) in Fiber Optics and Photonics Division, of CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), Kolkata, India. Simultaneously he was the Head of the Computer Division at CSIR-CGCRI.
At this moment (from 2019) Dr. Gangopadhyay is joined as a full time Professor in Electrical Engineering Department, Techno India Main Salt Lake (TMSL), Techno India University, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700091. He is now actively involved in teaching and research related to several aspects of Electrical Engineering and also Fiber-optic sensors.
He is graduated Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (B.E.E) with first class in 1989 and Master of Electrical Engineering (M.E.E.) with first class in 1991, both from the Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India. He graduated Ph.D. in December 2005 in the field of fiber-optic sensor from the School of Electrical & Information Engineering, The University of Sydney, Australia. His Ph.D. thesis title is: “Measurement of Vibration using Optical Fibre Sensors”. He worked there in the field of single-mode fiber-based sensors and fiber-optic interferometers.
During his tenure in CSIR as Chief Scientist (Scientist-G) and Formerly Head (Computer Division), Dr. Gangopadhyay was involved in R&D work of different types of optical fiber sensors such as Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors for smart structures, FBG sensors for Electrical Power transmission line application, Fabry–Pérot interferometer (FPI) for vibration sensor, Fiber loop Ring down spectroscopy (FLRDS) and Fiber loop resonator (FLR) for chemical sensors, etc. He has also fabrication expertise of some fiber-optic components such as bi-directional couplers for any splitting ratio, WDM couplers for 1550, 1310 and 980nm and side polished fiber.
He is acting as,
*Associate Editor of Elsevier Journal, Measurement: SENSORS.
*Guest Editor of the Journal"SENSORS" MDPI, Switzerland
