Profile Summary

Dr. Sona Hosseini is a Research and Instrument Scientist at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena and is an active member of Planetary Science and Optical Engineering Societies. Her research interest is to develop a new line of instrumentation to study cometary science and planetary atmospheres. During her graduate program, she spent nearly four years at Lick Observatory, Mt. Hamilton, CA to design and develop a field reflective Spatial Heterodyne Spectrometer technique. In the temporal study of faint, extended sources at high resolving power, Spatial Heterodyne Spectrometer (SHS) can offer significant advantages about conventional dispersive grating spectrometers. The architecture of SHS combines the high étendue of a Fourier Transform Spectrometer with higher optomechanical tolerance and simpler optomechanical design. Sona is excited to use SHS in future missions and Small-Sats.
