The zoom optical system can realize continuous change of focal length in a certain range while keeping the image plane fixed and the relative aperture basically fixed. At present, the zoom system is designed to ensure the stability of the image surface mostly by mechanical compensation method, and the mechanical structure mostly uses the zoom cam as the power transmission mechanism.Good image quality and simple operation are the development direction of the cam curve design. In this paper, the mechanical compensated two-component zoom optical system is taken as an example, and the corresponding zoom cam curve is obtained by using three methods: the ray tracing method, the multi-point fitting method and ZEMAX macro. The data of image quality evaluation parameters are analyzed and the imaging quality of three cam curve fitting methods is compared.
