Profile Summary

Brent Weyers is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. For his research, Brent is evaluating the clinical utility of a custom-built Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIm) instrument for performing intraoperative tumor delineation of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer. Brent has presented his research in oral formats at two international conferences (HORAO, Switzerland and JEDIS, Germany), twice in leading conferences in his field of study (SPIE Photonics West, San Francisco), and in a variety of other professional venues via poster format. Brent’s latest research was recently published in Translational Biophotonics in October 2019, and made the cover page for this journal’s inaugural issue. Brent presently holds 1 provisional patent, received an Earle C. Anthony Fellowship academic scholarship award FQ 2017-WQ 2018, was conferred an honorable mention by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2018, and received the Ruth Lee summer research support award in 2019. Outside academia, Brent additionally has professional experience as a research and development engineer at Penumbra Inc., a vascular medical device company, from summer 2016 to the start of his graduate studies at UC Davis in fall 2017.
