Abstract
By using a reflective-type semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM), we design a laser cavity to obtain a single mode-locked laser output beam. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a Nd:GdVO4 laser attaining a single mode-locked output beam with a reflective SESAM using this cavity design. A mode-locked average output power of 3.027 W is attained at a pump power of 10.07 W, with pulse duration 7.6 ps and repetition rate 90 MHz. In the actual applications, the single output laser can make full use of the output laser with nearly twice the efficiency of pump power, in comparison with lasers having two output laser beams. Thus, this laser has great promise in other applications.
