Abstract
The main advantage of using soliton pulses in optical communication systems is that the shape of the pulse remains almost unaltered over a long distance. We propose a simple method to achieve the proper power shape function of a pulse for generation of an optical soliton by using an electro-optic modulator in amplitude modulation mode. In this connection some important new characteristics of the pulse are pointed out.
