A new kind of polarizing beamsplitters (PBSs) based on the effects of a birefringent and resonance anomaly is presented. Its properties are analyzed using the correct Fourier modal method and the reflective and transmissive coefficient matrix (RTCM) recursion method. Two examples, one for the IR and the other for the visible, are given. An extremely high polarization extinction ratio is obtained in transmitting space. The effects of small variations in the parameters of the PBSs performance are also investigated.
