A method of modulation transfer function (MTF) measurement for charge-coupled device (CCD) focal-plane array (FPA) detectors that employs stochastic input in the form of laser speckle has been demonstrated with great success.1,2 This method, termed the ‘‘original method’’ henceforth, was recently improved upon3 by means of a hologram of speckle diffracted by an extended frequency aperture (EFA). Synopses of the two methods follow (the details are found in Refs. 2 and 3).
