1 February 1996 Reflective tomography in random scattering media by continuous-wave broadband electronic holography

Without mechanical scanning in the transverse direction, we selectively extract image slices from an object hidden behind random scattering media with an inexpensive, easy-to-operate, cw superluminescent laser diode, a CCD camera, and broadband electronic holography. System sensitivity is about 10-10 of the incident optical power. An efficient image processing algorithm is developed to eliminate the effect of phase noise in the electronic holography and enhance the recovered image. Submillimeter spatial resolution and 40-mm depth resolution is achieved. The SNR is limited by the dynamic range of the CCD camera.
