Based on the principles of radiometry, the modulation functions of the reflective optical-fiber sensor, which is of the intensity-modulated type, are derived for both specular reflection and diffuse reflection. Theoretical curves are given, based on the expressions for these functions. A comparison is made between the two cases for the different types of reflection, and the problems in applying these models to actual surfaces are discussed.
