Abstract
This paper outlines the development of a robust, automated and real-time horizon detection and tracking system for the purpose of distance estimation of the sea surface. The distance information facilitates visual monitoring of the sea surface in remote sensing or monitoring applications. The specific application of the system in marine mammal mitigation is used to trial and demonstrate the effectiveness of the system. Results from the trials are presented and shows the effectiveness of the system.
