Abstract
It is shown, that correct choice of complex forming ligand in the gel allows obtaining oriented ZnO films even on amorphous substrates. On crystalline substrates, in the case of small mismatches between lattice parameters of the substrate and the film, the main reason for the film orientation is epitaxial growth of ZnO film. In contrast to the case of liquid-phase epitaxy, the spontaneous polarization in epitaxial growth of lithium niobate films by the sol-gel method is directed normally from the substrate.
