Abstract
The key-hole structure in the metallic samples irradiated by a multi-kW CO2 laser was preserved by means of a fast optical switch. The changes in the key-hole size and shape after the quick interruption of the irradiation were evaluated, and the flow dynamics during the process were reconstructed.
