Abstract
This paper investigates the application of a tapered single-mode optical fiber as an optical filter for wavelength division multiplexing applications. The transmission characteristics of the tapered single-mode fibers are studied and observed to be oscillatory due to the non-adiabatically of the tapered region. The experimental results are examined in the 1300 nm to 1600 nm wavelength region with special attention around 1550 nm region. In order to validate the experiment a theoretical analysis is carried out for the same device.
