Abstract
We introduce five parameters for characterizing the uniformity of a laser beam in its transversal section. The meaning of two of them is illustrated in the example of a dummy irradiance. After that, the same parameters are calculated for Hermite-Gaussian, Laguerre-Gaussian, spherical Gaussian, super Gaussian and flattened Gaussian beams. The results are analyzed.
