Abstract
The release of WebTV was the start of a revolution in the web suffering. Instead of using both PC and television, many technology analysts suggest the integrated unit that will have the widespread availability and easy-of-use of television, combined with the interactive power and flexibility of a PC. In this issue, ATVEF specification is one of the most promising standards in the enhanced television field. In this paper, I would like to propose the prototype of digital data broadcasting system based on the ATVEF specification. This prototype system employs data piping as a mechanism for the delivery of arbitrary user-defined data inserted directly into the payload part of the MPEG-2 Transport Stream packets. This data type includes URL or HTML content based on the ATVEF specification. After the contents feed into the MPEG-2 Transport Stream, it can be delivered to the DTV set-top receiver through the network. Trigger objects received in real-time during the TV broadcast will be used to initiate display or switch content. This prototype system can be used as an example on how to achieve common design goals and how to integrate Digital TV with Web pages based on the ATVEF specification.
