Abstract
Understanding the surrounding scene and identifying man-made structures is an important task in autonomous vehicle navigation in outdoor environments. The ability to generalize the task of landmark recognition to a variety of landmarks belonging to a particular class is a difficult problem. This paper will describe a system to perform landmark recognition. The techniques used in this system for visual cues include texture, edges, functional form, and image-based search methods. This paper represents a follow- on work presented last year at SPIE.
