30 September 1994 Reversion radial velocity (REVRAVEL): a new principle for a stellar radial velocity spectrometer

Abstract
With the combination of a grism and a Kosters interference prism not only a beam doubling but also a reversion of the dispersion direction is achieved. With this principle a new type of an astronomical radial velocity spectrograph was designed. With this instrument radial velocities of stars in clusters, galactic field stars and of stars in the Magellanic clouds should be observable to a limit of about 15 mag with an accuracy of ±1 km/s with a im telescope. A description of the optical arrangement is given.
