Abstract
High speed PIN diode switch with matched termination and ferrite circula- tor is designed and used to generate from a CW source, narrow pulses of 10 ns width with rise time of 1.4 ns and fail time of 1.77 ns at 17 GHz. The narrow pulse modulator is realised by taking two signals from a TTL logic monoshot - one directly and the other after a small delay and ANDing them. The paper deals with the design of high speed PIN diode switch and narrow pulse modulator. : One of the ways to generate a narrow rf pulse is to modulate a CW source with an external high speed, high isolation and low insertion loss PIN diode switch. One such high speed , high isolation and low insertion loss PIN diode switch with its modulating circuit is developed and used in the configu- ration shown in Fig.1 to generate narrow rf pulses. The experimental set up (Fig.1) consists of a CW Gunn source, circulator, PIN diode switch with matched termination and high speed modulator.
