Abstract
Infrared- as well as Raman-active phonons of YBa2Cu307 are strongly affected by the transition to the superconducting state. The origin of the effect is the phonon interaction with electronic excitations, which are modified upon going into the superconducting state. A detailed analysis of the phonon self- energy effects at the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) and a comparison of the experimental data with theoretical results yielded, for example, a rather accurate value of the superconducting gap [1-3]. Our investigation showed that phonons couple also to spin excitations in high-temperature superconductors. This interaction determines the anomalous phonon behavior found for some phonons above Tc.
