Abstract
A new adaptive filtering and enhancement approach is proposed to use local orientation and statistical information of speckle pattern as adaptive image measurements in digital speckle image processing. By the use of combining speckle pattern orientation field with median filtering, some processing of 2-D specklegram can be completed through 1-D digital processing techniquess. Moreover, a polygonal window function with local direction is presented and applied to further smooth noise and to eliminate streak phenomenon produced by 1-D median filtering. Then,a new scanning method, perpendicularly across all the fringes which possess the same direction's proposed to remove thick noise that is very difficut to eliminate by ordinary digital processing techniques. Lastly,a directional enhancement filtering and double extremum detecting method are used to improve speckle pattern contrast, visibility and overcome unfavorable effect of diffraction halo to the discrimination of fringes.
