Abstract
We wish to replace this energy recovery scheme with a new concept -a high power rectenna, that directly converts the rf power generated by the decelerator unit to dc that can be utilized to drive the rf source for the accelerator. It thus avoids the drawbacks of the LANL scheme. We will illustrate the main features and advantages of the rectenna approach to energy recovery by discussing its use in the High Current RF (HCRF) Space Based FEL concept. This concept employs the highest peak power if sources (200 MW per source) of any of the FEL concepts, so it represents the most stressing environment for the application of the rectenna based energy recovery method. Section 2 will review the HCRF space based FEL concept, and section 3 will discuss the high powered rectenna design. Section 4 provides a summary of our work to date.
