Abstract
The motivation for this work was the need for an unusual optical system satisfying unusual design requirements. In conventional parlance it was to be a telescope attachment the features of which resemble those of an eyepiece and a camera assessory. It was to operate over a wide range of infrared wave lengths split into three disjoint wave length domains each acted upon by a different optical subsystem forming images on three distinctly different detector arrays. These three subsystems were to operate simultaneously. In addition. the overa I 1 system was to have two distinct modes of operation. By switching a minimal number of optical elements the power of the overall system was to be changed by a factor of four.
