Abstract
Continuous Heart Rate (HR) monitoring is widely used in medical diagnosis and health evaluation. In order to meet the need for fast and efficient heartbeat and HR detection, an HR sensor based on Single Mode Fiber (SMF) -No Core Fiber (NCF) structure is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Static curvature test shows that the sensor has a high curvature sensitivity of -2.461 dB/m-1 in the curvature range of 0-2.059 m-1, which is sufficient to detect changes in the curvature of human body parts caused by HR. The sensor head is fixed on the wrist of human body, and an intensity-demodulation system is developed to acquire and analyze human HR signals. Experimental results shows that the sensor can achieve detect HR signals with no baseline drifting. The proposed sensor provides a convenient method for medical applications and home detection.
