In December 2024, Terra will have been on orbit for 25 years with all five instruments operational. The high quality instruments allow calibration and scientists the opportunity to evaluate the sensors as well as methods for on-orbit calibration. The role Terra played in development and improvement of relative and absolute radiometric calibration is described including vicarious methods implemented as part of the Earth Observing System Project. Cross-calibration techniques and relative trending approaches are described with an emphasis on the three imagers on Terra as are impacts that Terra has had on follow-on sensor designs, on-ground testing approaches, and validation methods.
