Abstract
Brushless doubly-fed generators (BDFGs) have shown good application prospects in the field of wind power generation. The dual stator brushless doubly-fed generator (DSBDFG) improves the power density of the traditional BDFGs because of adopting dual-air-gap structure. This paper first introduced the topology of the dual stator brushless doubly-fed generator with short-circuited-coil rotor (DSBDFG-SCR) and the dual stator brushless doubly-fed generator with simple-salient- pole rotor (DSBDFG-SPR), and then compared their electromagnetic characteristics under the premise of unified parameters, including no-load characteristics, load characteristics, magnetic field lines and cloud maps, unbalanced magnetic pull, and overload operation ability. The results indicated that the DSBDFG-SCR has better electromagnetic performance, while the DSBDFG-SPR produces magnetic leakage due to increased air gap. The effectiveness of the results was verified through simulation.
