Abstract

Road network system is the main carrier of physical connections such as population and logistics within urban agglomerations, and plays an important role in supporting and guiding the regional development and spatial restructuring. Therefore, it is of great significance to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the development of road networks and correlation with regional development in urban agglomerations from a spatial perspective. This paper takes the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao (GBAGHM) as a case study to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the development level and spatio-temporal expansion characteristics of the road networks based on geographic information system (GIS). Furthermore, the spatial statistical theories and methods, such as exploratory spatial data analysis, multiscale geographically weighted regression and geographic detector, are used to measure and characterize the spatial correlation between the road networks and regional development, and to reveal its spatial heterogeneity and influencing factors.
