Abstract
This paper discusses the situation where the downstream retailer is the dominant player in the supply chain system. A demand function based on the price and freshness of fresh products is constructed to examine the joint fresh-keeping effort problem when the retailer and the supplier put in fresh-keeping effort separately, and to analyze the impact of the fresh-keeping effort cost sharing factor on the decisions making behavior of the retailer and the supplier. It is found that the system strategy is effective when the retailer takes up the fresh-keeping effort and when the supplier's share of the retailer's fresh-keeping effort is small; the joint fresh-keeping is not an effective system strategy when the supplier takes up the fresh-keeping effort.
