Abstract
The risk of cardiovascular diseases is increasing for all age groups, and hypertension is a leading risk factor. Noticeably, the proportion of middle-aged patients is increasing, which means the younger ages are being threatened. According to WHO, an estimated 46% of adults are unaware of their disease. Many drugs are being developed currently. This article mainly discussed two types-beta blockers and calcium channel blockers (CCB). Propranolol and nifedipine, as the most classical drugs in these two types, are elaborated, including their origins, structures, modes of action, synthesis, efficacy, contraindications, prices, and prescriptions. A comparison is being made on their similarities and differences.
