Abstract
Low OH, high CI pure silica core optical fibers have been irradiated at several temperatures and using different operating power levels. The growth data to 10 krads at 1320 rads/min irradiation rate have been measured along with the recovery out to 1-2000 seconds. The data have been analyzed to determine the effect of temperature for high and low power levels. This analysis and the implications on the mechanisms of defect growth and recovery are presented. A new set of experiments are proposed for a broader set of fibers specially prepared to enable further elucidation of the mechanisms especially the presence of high CI levels in some of the best rad-hard fibers.
