In my presentation, I will describe the advantages and challenges of using Brillouin microspectroscopy for imaging biological tissues and sub cellular structures. I will review the recent advances in instrumentation development, including the first quantum measurements of Brillouin spectra, and outline the potential applications where Brillouin microspectroscopy is likely to play the pivotal role in assessing local viscoelastic properties.
