Abstract
Standard Image Processing and Computer Graphics hardware and software seem inadequate to analyze and display the 3-d information of discrete volume data efficiently. Instant display is indispensable as a diagnostic tool and for the interactive development of automated analysis methods. A fast direct display algorithm has been defined and successfully implemented on available 2-d Image Processing equipment; a dedicated hardware realization should provide real-time display capabilities.
