Abstract
Monolayers of the superconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD), eg. NbSe2, exhibit a large anisotropy in the superconducting critical field due to Ising superconductivity. Doping Ising superconductors or engineering heterostructures with magnetic materials provides a unique opportunity to explore the interplay between proximity-induced magnetism, spin-orbit coupling and superconductivity. In this talk I will provide an overview of the physics of Ising superconductivity and how it is impacted by magnetism and point defects. Finally I will show how our comprehensive first-principles calculations provide microscopic insight into a number of novel experiments, which includes Josephson junctions based on Ising superconductors and 2D magnets and non-trivial doping of Ising superconductors using silicon, sulfur and molybdenum. This work was performed in collaboration with Daniel Agterberg, Menashe Haim, Sergii Khmelevskyi, Maxim Khodas, Igor Mazin, Miguel Ugeda and was supported by ONR.
